Of course, those memories of that warm, rich, pleasing smell drifting through the house that takes many of
us back to our childhoods isn't always so soul-satisfying when the brew meets the palate. Like you, even in
my limited experience with the beverage, I too have experienced coffee that tasted as if it had been pumped
from the ground in a Texas oil field. On the other hand I have also had some cups of the brew that tasted
like Heaven and flowed over the tongue like silk. It is the later brew that we strive to create for ourselves
that sends us off on the quest. My Quest Begins - The Motivation For many, many years I had thought of owning my own espresso machine. I had searched at various local stores but found nothing that I fancied. I knew only enough about these machines to know that I wanted one with a pump, but that was the extent of my knowledge.
A recent weekend visit to some friends on the coast was the catalyst that started my quest in earnest. They
have a combination steam powered espresso/coffee machine (by Krups I believe), and one morning we
enjoyed home made lattes. Well, in all truth, anyone that takes their coffee seriously would call those
beverages what they really were, strong, hot coffee with lots of foamy milk mixed in- they would never call
them latte or espresso or any other name associated with finer coffee beverages. I understand that might
sound like I am being a bit rude to my friends who were my hosts, but as I learned more about coffee I
began to see the light.
